DKH Irish Draught sport horses is owned by Kim Hughes, and her mother, Linda Pipe.
Kim
has been riding since age 11, and was an active member of her local Pony
Club up to level C1.
She competed in the Prince Phillip games, and won the British Columbia Championships.
Her experience has been in Dressage, hunter/jumper and equitation. Then she started to enter Three day events, and fell in love.
Kim's first horse was a two year Arab/QH and competed up to the training level.
In 1996, she moved from her Mission, British Columbia home to attend the Equine science program at Olds College, where she met her husband, Dalvin Hughes. After marrying, Kim continued eventing until an unfortunate accident at home, were her horse suffered a serious injury and had to be retired.
Kim took time off from her riding life to begin her family, and is now the proud mother three wonderful children. Kim never left sight of her dreams and goals, and so she began her quest to find another eventing partner.
Her family boasts a 2000 acre beef farm where she started raising Bashkir Curly's and now raises Irish Draught Sport Horses. Their latest acquisition has been a stallion (Jaunty Star) imported from Wales in 2006.
Kim is excited about her return to the saddle, this time
with horses she has bred herself. She is proud to be breeding quality
show horses and plans on achieving her long time goals on one of her Irish
Draught Sport Horses.
Kim says she could never have done anything like this without the support, love and encouragement from her mother, whom she thanks.
